BIRTHMOTHER LETTER

WHAT IS A BIRTHMOTHER LETTER

In a private adoption, birthparents seek a loving home for their child.  The birthmother is presented  letters and pictures from qualified prospective adoptive parents. The letter is addressed, “Dear Birthmother” or “Dear Birthparents”.  The first paragraph typically thanks the birthmother for considering your family as a possible placement for her baby.  The next two paragraphs focus on one the of the adoptive parents and includes the parents’ particular interests and what the parent hopes to be able to offer the child.  The next two paragraphs focus on the other adoptive parent.  Each parent should include information about their background and extended family.

The birthmother letter is accompanied by several pictures that give the birthmother a sense of who you are and the environment that the child will be raised in.

The birthmother makes an initial selection based upon the letter and pictures.  Once chosen the birthmother decides whether she would like to meet the adoptive family. Once a match is made, an adoption plan is developed.
